SPLIT – SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO

The first trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s Split just landed and it’s got a lot of people excited.

Following on from the Director’s (once dubbed the next Spielberg) 2015 low-budget, critical hit The Visit, also produced by prolific horror filmmaker Jason Blum (Insidious, The Gift, Whiplash to name a few), it appears Shyamalan may be set to continue his return to form with another minimalist, bottle horror.

Starring James McAvoy in the central role originally set to be filled by Joaquin Phoenix, Kevin (McAvoy), identified with having at least 23 different personalities, kidnaps three teenage girls who have to contend, and negotiate, with him and his multiple selves in order to escape.

The Visit, an unexpected found-footage style hit, was the Director’s least-costly film in years, a return to the basics of horror following a string of critically maligned, heavily-expensive outings including The Happening, The Last Airbender and After Earth, his Director’s fee from the latter being used to finance his return to form.

Also starring Jessica Sula, Haley Lu Richardson and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), Split may just be the treat in store for devoted horror/Shyamalan fans who are itching for The Sixth Sense Writer/Director, notorious for indulging in innumerable suspense-laden whims and horror-stylings, to smash out an outstanding, original shocker all over again.

Split will be in cinemas everywhere in January 2017
